TAXI drivers in Erewash are being asked to tell the borough council what changes they would like to see in policies governing the local trade.
The consultation covers aspects of hackney carriage and private hire vehicles including the famous knowledge test, which proves drivers can find their way around without a satnav.
Other elements include:
* Vehicle age limits.
* Wheelchair accessibility for hackney carriages.
* Low emission vehicle licence application fees.
* Tinted windows.
* Safeguarding.
Any changes to Erewash’s taxi licensing policy will be determined by the council’s Licensing and Public Protection Committee. Other aspects of the knowledge test, including the Highway Code, are not affected.
A spokesman said of the survey, which can be accessed via the council’s website: “This is an opportunity to explain why you think the policy should change or remain the same, and what benefit an amendment to the policy would have for the trade and passengers.”
The deadline for completing the survey is Friday 1 September 2023. Erewash Borough Council leader Cllr James Dawson said:
“We urge people to take part in the survey. Feedback and comments will greatly assist elected members to make their decision.”
