Flag to fly Armed Forces Day

Erewash Borough Council will be flying the Armed Forces flag from Monday June 19.

The flag will be flying from the Ilkeston and Long Eaton Town Halls for the week prior to the national Armed Forces Day on Saturday, 24 June 2023.

Councillor Kate Fennelly raised the flag at Ilkeston, and Councillor Mark Alfrey raised the flag at Long Eaton to commemorate the service of everyone in the British Armed Forces and its veterans. Both councillors are the council’s Armed Forces Champions and veterans of the Armed Forces.

Councillor Becca Everett, Lead Member for Community Engagement at Erewash Borough Council, says:

Erewash Borough Council is delighted to fly the Armed Forces flag once again and show its appreciation for everything members of the Armed Forces have done and continue to do for the country. This reflects how proud Erewash is of our British Armed Forces and its veterans.”

Armed Forces Day in the United Kingdom is an annual event, first observed in 2006 with the Veterans Day later changing its name to Armed Forces Day in 2009.
