Have your say on new nature reserve

Residents are being asked for their views on a proposed new local nature reserve at West End Drive in Ilkeston.

An online consultation is now open and people are encouraged to have their say on the proposals, including possible names for the nature reserve. Residents can take part in the survey, which is open until Sunday 25 June, at erewash.gov.uk/haveyoursay

Questions include whether people currently visit the site and whether they support the proposed nature reserve.

Councillor Joel Bryan, Lead Member for Environment at Erewash Borough Council, says:

“The proposed new nature reserve would bring many benefits for residents of Erewash, the wider community and visitors to the area. Being adjacent to Straw’s Bridge Local Nature Reserve, Manor Floods and Pewit Car, the site will provide a nature corridor, linking existing green spaces in the borough, in line with the council’s strategy.”

The nature reserve is one of 11 projects set to benefit from the council’s successful £2.8m bid to the Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025.
