Maggie reminds residents to take photo ID to May’s elections

Maggie Throup, Member of Parliament for Erewash, is reminding residents who wish to vote in May’s local elections, that they will need to take a form of photo ID to the polling station.

The Government has introduced a requirement for residents to show photo ID when voting at a polling station for local elections, Police and Crime Commissioner elections, UK parliamentary by-elections and recall petitions. From October 2023 it will also apply to UK general elections.

Maggie commented:

“Voting is a fundamental part of our democracy. I want to remind every resident, that to be eligible to vote, you must take a form of photo ID to the polling station.

“If you do not already have a form of photo ID, you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate by 5 pm on 25 April 2023, which will allow you to vote in the Erewash Borough Council elections on Thursday 4 May 2023.”

The following types of photo IDs are acceptable:

  • Passport
  • Driving licence (including provisional license)
  • Blue badge
  • Certain concessionary travel cards
  • Identity card with PASS mark (Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
  • Biometric Immigration document
  • Defence identity card
  • Certain national identity cards

Residents who do not have a valid form of photo ID can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate by clicking here.
