More dates have been added to the popular Dementia friendly walk events.
The walks, organised by Erewash Borough Council’s Sport and Health Development team, are an ideal opportunity for individuals with Dementia to spend quality time with their loved ones and enjoy the benefits of light outdoor exercise.
Following the success of the walks, additional dates have been added for those who missed the first group of walks and for those who wish to participate again. The Dementia friendly walks will take place on Thursday 13 October, Tuesday 25 October and Wednesday 9 November.
Residents should meet at the entrance gates of Victoria Park in Ilkeston at 1pm for what is estimated to be a 30 minute stroll, however walkers can take as long as they need. Participants can go at their own pace and will be led by qualified walk leaders. The walks are short, accessible and wheelchair-friendly. Refreshments will be available afterwards.
Councillor Paul Maginnis, Lead member for Health and Wellbeing at Erewash Borough Council, says:
“Everybody deserves the opportunity to experience the outdoors and experience the benefits of exercise and quality time with loved ones – Dementia friendly walks allow those living with Dementia the opportunity to enjoy all of those vital things. I hope the additional dates give even more people the chance to enjoy the relaxed, tailor-made walks in one of the borough’s award winning parks.”
