PEOPLE in Erewash who have lost loved ones are being invited to celebrate their lives at a poignant service of remembrance as Christmas looms.
A top local choir will be performing at the tribute on Friday 1 December – where mourners will hear the names of relatives and friends read out.
The event will be live-streamed on the internet from Bramcote Crematorium for those unable to attend.
The service there – which has been held annually thanks to Erewash and Broxtowe councils – will this year feature a slide show with photos of those who have passed away.
People have until Friday 24 November to send in pictures for the video tribute.
Experienced independent funeral celebrant Nell Brooker will lead the service. The long-running Erewash Phoenix Choir, which is based at Sandiacre Methodist Church, will be singing.
Nell said: “I’m privileged to witness people’s life stories and to honour them by creating personalised ceremonies from the heart.”
Bramcote Crematorium was built as a joint venture between Erewash and Broxtowe councils in 1979. Its responsive and caring approach to helping bereaved families won a Gold Award this year from the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management. Erewash Borough Council Leader James Dawson said:
“The annual service of remembrance has become an increasingly well-attended event over the years.
“It is something that helps provide much comfort to a lot of people who have perhaps lost somebody in the last year.”
The service starts at 7pm – with people urged to arrive half an hour beforehand.
A crematorium official said: “During our act of remembrance we can read out your loved ones’ names, which can be provided beforehand or given on the day.
“New for this year, we can also add your loved one’s photo to our slideshow. Please contact us for further information on 0115 917 3849 or by emailing bramcotecrem@broxtowe.gov.uk ”
Further information is on the crematorium’s website and on its Facebook page.
