Visitors to Erewash Museum this month can experience the power of Derbyshire’s collective creativity at the Necklace of Stars exhibition.
During the second half of 2022 and early 2023, the exhibit is touring Derbyshire and will be displayed in cultural venues, with Erewash hosting the project this month. A Necklace of Stars will be exhibited at the museum’s Lally Gallery until Wednesday 28 September.
The project celebrates childhood, the night sky, and the power of human connection in the face of the recent years of isolation. The main exhibit is a large quilt spanning 6.5 feet by 7.5 feet made of starry squares, all created by Derbyshire residents. Alongside the textile the exhibit showcases a catalogue of poems and a soundtrack of lullabies.
Councillor Carol Hart, Leader of Erewash Borough Council, says:
“A Necklace of Stars is a beautiful project that brings all of Derbyshire together. After the last few turbulent years, a creative project that celebrates how we are all connected is important and wonderfully uplifting. I’m delighted that residents of Erewash have the opportunity to enjoy the exhibit at the museum throughout September.”
Erewash Museum is located a short walk from Ilkeston’s Market Place. Admission is free for both the house and gardens. The volunteer-led tea room offers a variety of treats and drinks.
